Boosting National Abilities for Enhanced Cybersecurity

TLDR:

  • OSCE held a training event in Belgrade to promote responsible use of ICTs
  • Participants focused on strengthening national cyber resilience and increasing regional co-operation

The two-day training event organized by the OSCE Secretariat’s Transnational Threats Department in Belgrade, Serbia, aimed to promote responsible use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) by OSCE participating States. With the digitalization of societies, states are increasingly using ICTs to pursue their objectives, which can lead to misperception and a lack of transparency in cyberspace. The event focused on strengthening national cyber resilience and increasing regional co-operation to better prepare countries for threats from cyberspace and collectively address them. Participants from Eastern and South-Eastern Europe identified regional capacity-building priorities, promoted the inclusion of non-state actors in national approaches to cybersecurity, and engaged in a table-top exercise to explore the practical applicability of the OSCE’s cyber/ICT security confidence-building measures (CBMs). The training event was part of a project supported by the United Kingdom to enhance national abilities for cybersecurity.
