CDK Global, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider for car dealerships in North America, recently experienced a cyberattack that disrupted operations for over 15,000 auto dealers. The company’s platform is crucial for managing sales, customer relations, financing, and inventory for dealerships using CDK’s services.

The cyberattack, first detected on June 18th, led to CDK shutting down its systems as a precautionary measure. Customers were advised to disconnect access to their dealer management systems (DMS) and external cybersecurity experts were brought in to assist with the investigation and remediation.

Although CDK has not confirmed if the attack involved ransomware, the multiple shutdowns and security measures suggest efforts to prevent further spread of the threat. A subsequent cyber incident on June 19th further delayed the resolution, leaving dealerships without access to their systems.

As the investigation continues, CDK Global is working to restore access to its platforms and provide support for affected customers. This cyberattack highlights the vulnerability of SaaS providers and the importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect against such threats.
