TLDR:

  • SITA has launched a new cyber security solution, SITA Managed NAC, aimed at protecting airport and airline networks.
  • The solution enhances security by adding layers of verification and segmenting networks.

SITA, a Geneva-based air transport technology company, has introduced SITA Managed Network Access Control (NAC) to strengthen the security of critical infrastructure in airports and airlines. This solution aims to combat increasing cyber threats targeting digital systems in complex environments, such as aviation. SITA Managed NAC enhances the security of LAN and Wireless LAN communications by adding layers of verification and network segmentation. It ensures compliance with industry security standards, maintains operational efficiency, and protects passenger services.

Martin Smillie, SITA’s Senior Vice President for Communications and Data Exchange, emphasizes the importance of secure network access controls in airports, especially with the need for traffic and device segregation in different areas of airport infrastructure. SITA Managed NAC provides complete visibility and control over communication networks, allowing customers to monitor access details in real-time. The solution aligns with recommendations from cyber security authorities like the TSA and ACI, offering features such as detailed logging and the ability to quarantine non-compliant devices.

SITA Managed NAC is designed to integrate with the company’s existing campus network product and is based on Cisco’s Identity Services Engine platform, employing a zero trust security model to minimize unauthorized access risks. By enhancing control over network access, airports and airlines can improve cyber security resilience and meet regulatory requirements.
