  • Naftogaz confirmed that its data center was targeted, resulting in disruptions to call centers and the website.

Several Ukrainian state-owned critical infrastructure organizations have been targeted in cyberattacks, according to The Record. Naftogaz, an oil and gas firm, confirmed that its data center was targeted in the attack, leading to disruptions in its call centers and website. DSBT, a transport safety agency, also reported a compromise of its data center, impacting its Shlyah system and website. Ukrposhta, the national postal service provider, experienced service interruptions due to the hack of its partners’ information infrastructure, although payment processing services have since been recovered. Lastly, Ukrzaliznytsia, the state railway, reported that online ticket purchases were affected by an attack on some of its systems.

It is worth noting that only the intrusion against DSBT has been claimed by the Russian hacking group National Cyber Army. These cyberattacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure entities follow a major distributed denial-of-service attack on Monobank, the country’s largest bank.

The cybersecurity firm Recorded Future notes that these attacks underscore the continued targeting of critical infrastructure organizations, which can have significant consequences in terms of disruption to services and potential national security threats. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the protection of critical infrastructure against cyber threats becomes crucial.
