Priya PatelTLDR: Romanian hospitals were left offline and resorted to using pen and paper after a ransomware attack on a healthcare management system. The attack targeted the Hipocrate Information System (HIS) and deployed the Backmydata ransomware, encrypting data from 26 hospitals across the country. The Romanian National Cyber Security Directorate reported that 74 other healthcare facilities connected to the HIS system have been cut off from the internet as investigators work to determine if they have also been affected. Most impacted hospitals have backups of their data, except for one which is missing the last 12 days. The attackers have demanded a 3.5 Bitcoin ransom from the hospitals.
