Nozomi Networks has predicted a major uplift in cybersecurity for critical infrastructure owners in Australia and New Zealand in 2024. The company’s experts in the region have highlighted the need for improved visibility over networks and devices, secure-by-design frameworks, and tackling the skills shortage impacting the industry. The predictions come in the wake of the launch of Australia’s 2023-2030 Cyber Security Strategy and the implementation of the Security of Critical Infrastructure (SOCI) Act measures. Nozomi Networks has stated that critical infrastructure providers are set to improve their operational technology (OT) and IoT security postures. The company also highlighted the importance of countering victim blaming in the event of an attack and involving law enforcement in cybersecurity efforts. The experts also mentioned the need to address the skills shortage in the industry and called for OT and IoT security to be ingrained in governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) teams. They predicted that network and device security will become a more significant focus in 2024, with secure-by-design methodologies gaining traction. However, the experts noted that there are challenges in securing legacy environments built before the concept of cybersecurity existed.
