Singapore has introduced a new cyber health check for the maritime industry to address the increasing cybersecurity threats. The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) has collaborated with the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to launch an online self-assessment tool called MaritimeSG Shipping CyberSafe Scorecard during the Singapore Maritime Week (SMW). This industry-led initiative involves experts from classification societies, insurers, and shipping companies and aims to help shipowners, managers, and operators evaluate their cyber risks and readiness.

MPA Chief Executive Teo Eng Dih likened the cyber assessment tool to a health check-up for the maritime industry. To date, over 30 companies, including well-known names like PCL, Pacific International Lines, OSM Thome, and BW Group, have completed the self-assessment. T S Teo, Chair of the SSA Digitalization Committee, highlighted the importance of fortifying cybersecurity posture for the industry’s reliability and resilience. He emphasized that the scorecard serves as a foundation for companies to plan and implement long-term measures to enhance their cybersecurity preparedness.

With no existing tools on the market for such evaluations, the MaritimeSG Shipping CyberSafe Scorecard fills a critical gap in the industry. The SSA, representing over 500 Singapore shipping and maritime companies, aims to make Singapore a hub for secure maritime operations. The scorecard is accessible online at www.scissor.sg, offering companies the opportunity to improve their cybersecurity measures.
