The telecom industry is rapidly moving towards a digital era, with advancements in technologies such as 5G, AI, M2M learning, and IoT. However, these advancements have also brought challenges in terms of cybersecurity. The demand for cybersecurity professionals has increased, but there is a significant lack of skilled manpower in this segment.
Between 2020 and 2022, there were an average of 1.3 million cybersecurity incidents per year. India, with the second-largest global active internet user base, has a significant gap between the demand and supply of cybersecurity jobs. India represents only 6% of global cybersecurity jobs, and the demand-supply gap stands at 30%.
The adoption of 5G networks will bring in new cybersecurity risks, including IoT security threats, data privacy concerns, and network security threats. However, these risks can be mitigated with the implementation of efficient security safeguards such as encryption, multi-factor authentication, network segmentation, threat intelligence, and security testing.
