TLDR:

The UK’s Ministry of Defence is revamping its internal cloud network with a ‘secure by design’ approach, focusing on automated threat detection and addressing the evolving malware threats. By prioritizing security and implementing multi-tenant architecture, the MoD aims to create a secure and scalable platform for various departments.

The UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) is undergoing a strategic cloud project to consolidate its network architecture.

Harry Gazzard, a solutions architect contractor, presented the MoD’s approach to developing a secure cloud network at InfoSecurity Europe 2024.

The MoD is following the ‘secure by design’ approach in collaboration with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to ensure cyber security from the design phase onwards.

The MoD is facing malware threats, targeting traffic distribution systems, including DNS, to block malware before deployment in the network.

The MoD is focusing on automating threat monitoring processes for advanced DNS protection and enabling multi-tenant architecture to scale the internal cloud.

Continuous security assessments are taking place to ensure compliance and invest in updating systems for better protection against evolving threats.
