TLDR:
- University of Windsor partners with Block Harbor for automotive cybersecurity
- Collaboration to provide students with experiential learning opportunities
The University of Windsor’s SHIELD Automotive Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence has announced a new partnership with automotive cybersecurity firm Block Harbor. The collaboration aims to provide students with hands-on learning experiences by using actual test cases. Block Harbor, a decade-old Detroit company, will supply the university with Breakwater test cases that integrate seamlessly with their Automotive Cybersecurity Penetration Test Platform.
The partnership is crucial as all road vehicles in United Nations member states must undergo and pass the Breakwater UNR155 Mitigation Test Suite audit starting in July 2024. This partnership will help address the challenges faced by the automotive cybersecurity sector, including a shortage of specialized professionals and effective tools. Block Harbor’s Vehicle Security Engineering Cloud (VSEC) platform will be integrated into the university’s curriculum to enhance cybersecurity engineering processes.
Collaborative projects between the University of Windsor and Block Harbor will focus on developing tools for the VSEC platform, supporting automated security testing, threat and risk management, and compliance checks. This partnership will bridge the gap between academia and industry, providing students with up-to-date knowledge and valuable skills in automotive cybersecurity.
