Microsoft is taking significant steps to enhance its cybersecurity efforts through the expansion of the Secure Future Initiative (SFI). The initiative was launched last November, and in response to evolving threat landscapes, Microsoft is expanding the scope of SFI to address cybersecurity challenges effectively.
The expanded SFI is guided by three key security principles: Secure by design, Secure by default, and Secure operations. These principles will be integrated into six prioritized security pillars, focusing on protecting identities, secrets, tenants, networks, engineering systems, monitoring threats, and accelerating response and remediation.
To ensure accountability and progress, Microsoft is aligning part of the compensation of the company’s Senior Leadership Team with meeting security plans and milestones. The company is also implementing paved paths, setting standards for each security pillar, and measuring adherence through objectives and key results (OKRs).
In addition, Microsoft is instituting new governance measures to elevate security oversight, controls, and reporting. This includes a new security governance framework led by the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and enhanced threat intelligence capabilities.
With a focus on driving a security-first culture, Microsoft is reinforcing security through daily behaviors and promoting collaboration across organizational boundaries. The company is committed to continuously improving and adapting to the evolving cybersecurity landscape to maintain trust and ensure customer safety.
